The course is a basic course on fiber optic communication. Various components of an FOC system are studied in this course. First, the optical fiber characteristics are studied and different types of optical fibers are introduced. Signal distortion on optical fibers is investigated subsequently. Theoritical and experimental aspects of optical sources like LEDs and Lasers are discussed further. Semiconductor based optical detectors are studied and analysis of optical links is presented. Advanced topics like the DWDM systems, fiber amplifiers etc are discussed towards the end of the course
